THE PROCESS OF THE DAY

The classes are divided into groups of 18 to 20 students, and the participants are with one facilitator all day. The day comprises of almost non-stop group and individual activities. At some point during the day each participant is taken to an interview room and given a 6 to 10 minute interview for an entry level position or a work experience placement. The participants can choose the job they wish to apply for. Ideally this will be something they are interested in and could realistically be eligible to apply for at this time, with their limited experience.

The mock interview is often the highlight of the day for the students - it is their taste of the real world and they feel the nerves of actually having an interview.

As with all new experiences there is a lot to learn from this exercise and as a class the mock interview is de-briefed and discussed with the facilitator.

THE RESULT

At the end of the session the participants complete an evaluation form so that both the school and Hands on Training Group can see what the students think works well and what aspects of the day can be improved.

The students get written feedback from the interviewer and also a Certificate of Completion for the day.
